Jewell Gardens - Skagway, Alaska

Jewell Gardens - July 28, 2009 - Skagway, Alaska

http://www.jewellgardens.com/

This was a lovely garden center, display garden, and glass blowing studio I visited during my recent cruise in Alaska. It was not a stop I had planned on - but one that just happened by chance. And what a nice surprise it was.

My cousin Brent is a very talented Glass artist.( http://www.fullblownglass.com/) After being inspired here, I am convinced that he and I have some beautiful garden and glass design collaborations in our future. :) Right Brent?

Check his work out here too:

They had several different buildings which housed a gift shop, a demonstration glass blowing studio, and a more private studio (my guess anyway), a tea room, and a restaurant, along with greenouses.

glass art was displayed throughout the garden - there were many glass flowers as well as glass blades of grass - or Iris leaves

Demonstration studio..

Beautiful colors of petunias and poppies..

Majestic mountains in the background..

I love the blades of glass. The most effective pieces they had were pieces that seemed the most like they could have been "planted" there.

Beautiful yellow blooming clematis...

the blue of delphiniums is the most vivid blue you can see in any garden...

if you look closely you can see glass pieces in the dry creek beds.. they were bubbles.. and fish..

Pineapple mint and petunias..

I saw amazing Huge begonias all over Vancouver and Alaska...

The color of this geranium was so rich!!

These begonia flowers were so large...

The restaurant.. beautiful views - you could see a hanging glacier on the top of the mountain..

The twigwork on the railings was very nice..

There was a miniature railroad garden...

The Dahlias were also big and bold...

Cardoon..

Beautiful amber glass..

This looked to be their homage to Chihuly... I loved that this beautiful, delicate, ornate piece of art was hanging from their humble greenhouse!! Great!!
